As Halloween approaches, I see more and more Day of the Dead themed decorations and I feel like its really important to acknowledge this because although the skull and skeleton themed decorations are interesting and colorful, they also have a deep cultural significance in Mexican heritage. Please consider learning a little bit about the Day of the Dead. The following links can provide with more information about this 400 year old tradition.
http://www.art-is-fun.com/day-of-the-dead-facts/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_the_Dead http://www.dayofthedead.com/ This year my 5th. Grade and 2nd. Grade students will be creating some Day of Dead themed art projects. The 5th. Graders are making ceramic skulls that they decorated with texture and color. If the students wish to have their skull finished as a magnet they can bring 25 cents to school. I will make sure a heavy duty magnet is securely glued to the back of their skull. The magnet is entirely optional. The 2nd. Grade students are working on colorful skull drawings. Pictures of the finished projects will be posted on my Facebook page. Please consider following me so you can see the latest happenings. https://www.facebook.com/friendlyneighborhoodartteacher |
