This is always a hectic time of year in the art room. Just when the hustle and bustle of report cards and conferences passes, it's on to art show season! The Festival of Fine Arts is one of my favorite things because I get to showcase the hard work of my talented students and I get to see what other art teachers have been doing with their students. Also, I love being able to support the music and band programs by watching all the great performances. I hope you will join us on April 11th at Beach Park Middle School. It's a lovely way to spend time with your family and support the community. In the next week, please check the 2015 Festival of Fine Arts tab on the left of this page to get the most up to date information about the event.
Did you know that every month I have a raffle going in the art room? Students can win a variety of different art related materials simply by dropping a "bee buck" with their name on into my giant silver raffle can! This month I have 4 Crayola Fun Packs! So, that means 4 winners! Enter today and I will pick the winners before Thanksgiving. Good Luck!I love to introduce my students to the art of Piet Mondrian early in the year because that's when I first start chatting about primary colors. Primary colors are a set of colors that can be combined to make a useful range of colors. Red, Blue and Yellow are considered primary colors. (Ask your kids if they know that!) Piet Mondrian features Primary colors in some of his Paintings. Once the kids have looked at the painting and our discussion is over I have them recreate Mondrian's style using pre-cut squares of primary color paper and glue. Of course we listen to boogie woogie style music while we work. Over the past year or so I have taken to using technology and social media to connect with families. It has been a wonderful experience with a severe learning curve. However, I think I am getting the hang of it.
